Sirens Seduce the Studio

Sirens28x44posterHarrah’s Reno has a hot new gig in town: The Sapphire Sirens.

Last week we teamed up with Whistler Creative to photograph Harrah’s latest nightclub entertainment at the Sapphire Lounge.

The six new dancers spent a day at the studio getting their hair and makeup done for a high energy photo shoot.  The girls were photographed individually and then composited into one image done by Roger Shopshire who works for Whistler Creative.

For this shoot we brought in the actual dancers from the show.  Stage performers are different to photograph than models, they like to move rather than pose.  In order to capture their movements and energy without creating a blur we used a faster shutter speed and shorter flash duration.  Classic blue and green gels were used on high contrast fashion lights to cast the blue and turquoise glow onto the girls and fans were used to keep the flow in their hair.

The day was a lot of fun and the client  was thrilled with the results.  If the girls can bring as much energy to The Sapphire Lounge as they did that day in the studio then they will have no problem bringing success to the show.

Lights, Camera, Smile!

slots_0471Last week we packed up the truck and headed out to Boomtown Hotel and Casino for a two day photo shoot. The Advertising Agency for Boomtown is Touchpoints Marketing, a firm based out of New Orleans, Louisiana which specializes in the Entertainment, Hotel, Restaurant, and Casino industry. This was our second time working with Chris, the Art Director for Touchpoints, who is great to work with. He comes up with very creative concepts which he easily communicates to us and then lets us do our job. It is a constant dialogue between the two of us throughout the entire process, we definitely speak the same language.

There were eight conceptual shots in all: 1 Blackjack, 1 Craps, a Keno, Roulette, 2 Slot Machines, a picture of their Sports Book, and one of their steakhouse, Cassidy’s Steakhouse. We had 6 professional actors from Cast Images in Sacramento in addition to some Boomtown employees in the photographs. All of the actors really hit their mark on creating a realistic atmosphere virtually every time.

Behind the scenes we used Broncolor strobes to light the room and tons of gels to balance out the different color temperatures that were already existing from the slot machines and signs. We brought our favorite camera, the Hasselblad H3D, and used a variety of lenses for each scene. Each shot was tethered to our iMac so the Art Director, Marketing Director, and General Manager could all get a sneak peak of the images.

Other than having to wake up early in the morning and work late the photo shoot was a lot of fun! You can’t complain when your days consist of working with great people, a fun atmosphere, and real poker chips!

If you’re ever in the area make a point to go try Cassidy’s Steakhouse; the food is awesome! They have fresh fish, a great wine selection, and everyone from the waiters to the head chef were fun, friendly, and hospitable.
